So my new pet peeve with the French is how it is now the new fad to just respond to a text message with "Rien compris" ("Understood nothing") instead of asking any clarify question. Often this is because of a typo or autocorrect gone haywire (which happens to me a lot with a keyboard in three languages) but heaven forbid we try to actually put in any effort, right? Heaven forbid we say "I didn't understand what xxxx means." Or "I think you made a typo." 🙄
